Kids in Need of Defense

Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is an international nongovernmental organization founded in 2008 by Microsoft Corporation and UNHCR Special Envoy Angelina Jolie. The organization is devoted to protecting unaccompanied and separated children by providing comprehensive legal representation and holistic support. Its vision is a world where children's rights and well-being are protected throughout their entire migration journey, ensuring safety, dignity, and due process.

KIND's work spans several core areas. It provides comprehensive legal representation for unaccompanied and separated children in immigration court, having helped over 17,000 children receive such representation. The organization also addresses the holistic needs of migrant children through psychosocial support, advocates for child-centered solutions through policy work, and promotes similar solutions through international programs.

The organization operates across the United States, Mexico, Central America, and Europe, working within the immigration, legal services, child welfare, and humanitarian aid sectors. It partners with more than 800 pro bono attorneys to deliver its services.
