The Florida Gators are the intercollegiate athletic program of the University of Florida, based in Gainesville, Florida, and competing in NCAA Division I as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The programme fields 16 men's and women's sports and is managed by the University Athletic Association, Inc. Its stated remit spans sports programme management, athletic facilities development and student-athlete development.
Competitive results have been sustained over a long period. The Gators have ranked among the top 10 in the national all-sports standings for 42 consecutive years, from 1983-84 through 2025-26. Football has won 3 national championships and 8 SEC titles and has produced 3 Heisman Trophy winners; multiple national championships have also been won in sports including men's basketball and track and field. The varsity roster covers football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, golf, swimming and diving, track and field, cross country, lacrosse and volleyball.
Work centres on Gainesville, with the programme's competitive reach extending nationally through SEC and NCAA Division I competition. A major facilities transformation, The Swamp renovation project, is under way to deliver world-class facilities for student-athletes and fans. The organisation describes its culture as centred on providing a championship experience with integrity both on and off the field, with an emphasis on the student-athlete experience and on facilities that support it.
