Move For Hunger

Move For Hunger is a nonprofit organization founded in 2009 that coordinates a network of moving companies and apartment communities to collect food during moves and other events. This food is then delivered to local food banks across the United States and Canada. The organization operates in all 50 states and Canada.

The model connects two existing industries - moving services and apartment management - with hunger relief infrastructure. Move For Hunger mobilizes over 1,200 moving companies and 2,900 apartment communities to participate in food rescue efforts. To date, the network has delivered more than 60 million pounds of food to food banks, the equivalent of approximately 50 million meals.

The organization's founding stemmed from a personal observation of food waste during a residential move. Its work sits at the intersection of food rescue, hunger relief, and sustainability, aiming to reduce waste while addressing food insecurity.
